Review

Another game that I’ve played before on Xbox 360. There is a word that sums up Risen, and that word is…hard (I would use two words, but I’m tying to reduce my swearing intake). It is a game that I would thoroughly recommend you save every time you move a couple of feet, kill something or talk to someone. You awaken on a beach after the ship you stowed away on sinks. There are two survivors - you and a woman. You are given a couple of easy quests, and then go your separate ways. It's surprising that she doesn’t kill you, almost everything else does.

There are factions on the island that you will have to choose one of at some point. Each faction has different quests for you to do, and different reasons for being in the area.

The skills are the usual Sword, Staff, Shield, Bow, Picklock etc. Some skills have ten levels in them, and some have one or two. When you level up you gain 10 learning points, once you find a trainer you pay them to convert your learning points in to either a skill or an attribute. You can only use weapons that you have a high enough attribute in.

Combat consists of striking or parrying. If you are fighting in a town or city I found that backing up a set of steps helps with combat.

I’ve played 12.5 hours of Risen, and I’m currently level 6, have a sword skill of 3/10, and a strength of 18. I can use a sword, and I can die…a lot.

Remember to save before a fight. Like in two worlds you don’t necessarily stay dead. Your hit points start to creep up a bit after you are killed by a ‘sentient creature’ or person, however while unconscious they will rob you of your items. Monsters and animals will just kill you, and you will have to load from the last save.

At the beginning of the game I had several instances of clipping through/ or into the ground after jumping which meant a restart, which was frustrating.

My rating is   6/10. Probably more if you like dying a lot.

To buy Risen simply click here… https://store.steampowered.com/app/40300/Risen/

My current PC rig is a AMD Ryzen 7 5700G with Radeon Graphics  @ 3.80 GHz, 64Gb of Ram, and a 6Gb Geforce GTX 1660 Super (really need a Radeon).

 Next time…Torchlight!

If there is an old CRPG you would like me to review just get in touch. Between Steam, GOG and Xbox I’ll probably have it!
